The Isaac Ray Research Program was endowed by James L. Cavanaugh, Jr., MD (pictured to the right) in 2018. Dr. Cavanaugh founded the Isaac Ray Center in 1979. Over the ensuing 40 years, the Isaac Ray Center became a preeminent forensic psychiatry and psychology and practice in Chicago, providing forensic and correctional mental health services, training postgraduate fellows, and publishing hundreds of articles and book chapters contributing to the field of forensic mental health. Upon the retirement of Dr. Cavanaugh, the assets of the Isaac Ray Center were transferred to the Northwestern Memorial Foundation to establish the Isaac Ray Research Program in Behavioral Sciences and the Law at Northwestern Medicine, within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, to continue research at the interface of behavioral sciences and the law. We are proud to continue Dr. Cavanaugh’s legacy in advancing the science of forensic psychology and psychiatry.
